Senior Research Associate in Chemical Microbiology
Ref: RA2030
£35,333 - £42,155 per annum
Full-Time / Fixed-Term
Applications are invited for a Senior Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr Andrew Gates at UEA and will also work with Dr Zoë Waller at UCL to undertake a BBSRC-funded chemical microbiology research project. You will use a range of microbial cell biology, biochemistry and biophysical techniques to advance our understanding of how bacteria use G-quadruplex and i-motif DNA secondary structures to regulate expression and biosynthesis of pathways for nitrous oxide destruction and develop chemical tools to stop bacteria releasing this potent climate-damaging greenhouse gas.
Applicants must have, or expect to shortly be awarded, a PhD (or equivalent qualification), in microbial biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology or related area and be able to fulfil essential elements of the person specification.
The research will be based at the University of East Anglia in the School of Biological Sciences, a Silver Athena SWAN Award holder.
This full-time post is available from 1 December 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a fixed-term basis for 12 months, ending 30 November 2023.
Closing Date: Wednesday 2 November 2022
The University is committed to diversifying its workforce. As examples, we already hold an Athena SWAN Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality. We also have a Vice-Chancellor led Taskforce on Tackling Racism and a Race Equality Charter Working Group which support our work on race equality. Our aim is to submit to the Race Equality Charter in 2024.
