Financial Wellbeing Researcher (KTP Associate)
Ref: RA2078

Starting salary from £35,333 per annum, dependant on skills and experience, with an annual increment up to £42,155 per annum

The University of East Anglia is a research-led university and has many highly regarded innovative and research centres in the UK. RBC Brewin Dolphin (‘Brewin Dolphin’) runs a chargeable Business-to-Business (B2B) scheme that looks to educate individuals in financial literacy across the UK via their employer.

Applications are invited for the post of Financial Wellbeing Researcher (Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate), employed by the University, to work in collaboration with Brewin Dolphin on a highly rewarding and stimulating project to combine the latest academic research on financial literacy, financial wellbeing, and programme evaluation with an exciting opportunity to inform Brewin Dolphin’s longer-term strategy for a Financial Wellbeing offering. This opportunity represents significant investment for the firm with the potential for long-term employment post project.

The goal of this programme is to ‘democratise financial education’ targeting the next generation of investors. Why? In the UK there is relatively poor financial literacy and a growing advice gap, which is made up of individuals who would benefit from seeking advice but cannot necessarily afford it, or do not understand the benefit of such advice. Brewin Dolphin’s vision is to create greater financial wellbeing earlier in life and raise brand awareness. This is an innovative programme looking to address a social challenge which has pertinence given the ongoing cost of living crisis.

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership is a UK Government scheme funded by Innovate UK aimed at promoting sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry. The research will be based at the University of East Anglia in Norwich Business School.

You will apply mixed (quantitative and qualitative) methods to evaluate which elements of the programme work and to support Brewin Dolphin to develop their commercial offer. You will use cost-effectiveness analysis to assess organisational level changes in wellbeing and stress compared to programme costs and carry out deeper qualitative research work in collaboration to gain insight into potential barriers to wellbeing-targeted interventions on sensitive topics.

You will be fully supported and mentored to nurture your talent. You will have your own budget (£2,000 pa) for training and Continued Professional Development, helping you reach your personal and professional career goals.

You will be a postgraduate with experience in qualitative and /or quantitative research in economics, psychology, sociology or another relevant discipline, and have significant previous experience of ethical independent research. You will also have excellent communication skills, decision-making skills, interpersonal skills, organisational and time-management skills.

This full-time post is available immediately, for a fixed-term period of 24 months and will be based at Brewin Dolphin’s offices in London. Hybrid working arrangements are possible by mutual agreement. Appointment will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Further information on our great benefits package, including 33 days annual leave inclusive of statutory Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time), can be found on our benefits page.

We strongly encourage applications from all those from Black, Asian or other minority ethnic backgrounds and welcome applications from all protected groups as defined by the Equality Act 2010. Appointment will be made on merit.

Closing date: 12 April 2023

The University is committed to diversifying its workforce. As examples, we already hold an Athena SWAN Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality. We also have a Vice-Chancellor led Taskforce on Tackling Racism and a Race Equality Charter Working Group which support our work on race equality. Our aim is to submit to the Race Equality Charter in 2024.
