Senior Research Associate
Ref: RA2005

£34,304 - £40,927 per annum

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Associate to work with Dr Teodora Gliga (UEA) and other team members from University of East Anglia, Birkbeck and Goldsmiths, on a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), at University of East Anglia.

Compared to deaf infants with deaf parents, many deaf infants born to hearing parents experience reduced access to the main language used by their family and enter school with less developed language. This project will investigate the role that language exposure has on early cognitive development, in a cohort of congenitally deaf infants. We will develop new methods for quantifying conceptual development in hearing and deaf infants and new paradigms that capture learning in naturalistic interaction.

You will work in our state-of-the art Developmental labs, equipped with EEG, eye-tracking and fNIRS systems. You will contribute to the design of new experiments and lead on complex data analysis (e.g., time frequency EEG analysis). You will carry out behavioural and EEG experiments with infants and toddlers, with help from other team members.

You must hold a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience or a related discipline, and have research experience with EEG and be able to satisfy all the essential criteria detailed in the person specification for this post. You will have relevant programming skills and experience with writing papers for academic journals. You will have knowledge of British Sign Language or the desire to learn BSL.

This post is available from 10 October 2022, on a full-time basis for a fixed term period of 3 years.

Closing date: 22 August 2022

The University is committed to diversifying its workforce. As examples, we already hold an Athena SWAN Silver Institutional Award in recognition of our advancement towards gender equality. We also have a Vice-Chancellor led Taskforce on Tackling Racism and a Race Equality Charter Working Group which support our work on race equality. Our aim is to submit to the Race Equality Charter in 2024.
